Employers Register – Forced labour in Brazil
The Ministry of Labour and Employment in Brazil has a public register with names of individual and legal entities caught exploiting workers in conditions similar to slavery (established under MTE Decree No. 540). There have been reports of modern slavery in agricultural supply chains in Brazil, particularly in the cattle industry. In order to help mitigate the risk of modern slavery in portfolio companies, financial institutions should as a minimum ensure that they do not provide finance to companies registered in the Employers’ Register for exploiting workers in conditions similar to slavery.
The Register can be found on the website of Ministry of Labour and Employment here.
